These “Grassroots Referee” classes are the new USSF classification for a new referee that is trained and certified as an assistant referee and center referee.  They replace the old grade 9, 8 and 7 classifications.  This class will continue to be 12 hours long and cost $115.00 with online work and on field training.

1. Where do I register to take a new “Grassroots Referee Class?”
Register with Game Official: http://mainerefs.gameofficials.net and follow the directions for a new referee and sign up for the “Grassroots” course that you want.  Once you sign up for the course the online work and additional information will be emailed to you.

2. How do I get games once I am certified?
Each club has a certified assignor that will contact you if you live in that town or area.  You can also look on the Maine Soccer Referee Association website, to get a complete listing of all the assignors in the state: https://www.mainesoccerreferee.com/assignors

3. How much can I really make?
As a first-year referee you start off as an Assistant Referee, earning $20 in a U11 & U12 game.  If you are comfortable, you can earn $30 as the only referee in a U9 & U10 game. As you improve you can earn $40.00 as the center referee in a U11 & U12 game.  With more experience you can move up to a U13 & U14 game and make $50 to Center and $25 to AR. You can also make additional money working in Soccer Maine’s approved tournaments and festivals which are held: Indigenous Peoples weekend in Sanford, Falmouth, and Gray, the U9, 10, and 11 festivals in late October, U12, U13, & U14 Playoffs, also in late October.
